The turning point / Vändpunkten

Finally I’m now so far into my restoration that I can start putting items together that should go in my car when its back from re-spray.  The first item is the Ventilators. The Covers has been zink plated and all the little parts safe for the white nylon details are new. I have also fitted the missing Packing and hope that there will be no water ingress anymore. Below some before and after photos:

The small little details… / De små små detaljerna…

There was a little chromed cover washer missing on the cigarette lightener 😦

Luckily enough Scantrade in Switzerland had new ones in stock. 🙂

Back from Holiday / Tillbaka från semestern

I’ve now started my autumn work in the garage by going to Dorsetware to pick up all the electroplating items I left with them before the summer. It was a real joy as the items looked like new!

I’m glad I had lots of photos and notes so that I can reconcile each little part with where it belongs. Its quite a few nuts and bolts on a car.

Many thanks to the Dorsetware team for a great job!

Late yesterday afternoon my Volvo arrived at P&K Panels where Andy (left in the picture) with team meats up to go through what needs to be done. Now the body is structurally sound and there is no rust, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Stripping back to bare metal, wire wehling the engine compartment, interior and luggage compartment and do all the led repairs and preparations to be able to paint in the original Volvo colour no. 71 which the car had when it left the factory in 1966. As it’s a lot of work I thought it would be appropriate with before and after photos not only of the car but of the team as well 🙂

A major milestone

I went to Tricket Welding yesterday whilst they where finishing their structural welding work. The pictures and videos (links to be inserted within the next couple of days)  below does not show everything as the whole under side wasn’t stone chipped at the time I was there an filmed.   Work done by the guys at Tricket Welding includes:

  • Scraping and wire wheeling the under side of the body
  • Lifting out the engine
  • Fitting new:
  •       Cross Member
  •       Battery Tray
  •       RH Front Wing
  •       LH Front quarter panel
  •       RH+LH Inner, Middle and Outer Sills
  •       RH+LH Inner and Outer Wheel Arches
  •       RH+LH Inner and Outer Rear Quarter Panels
  •       Rear Outer Valance
  • Repairing, building new:
  •      RH+LH Front Chassis repairs
  •      LH upper part of Front Wing and section under front window and upper A-post
  •      RH+LH Front Floor plan repairs
  •      RH+LH New lower part of A-post
  •      RH+LH B-post repair
  •      RH+LH Rear Floor plan repairs towards Inner Wheel House
  •      Inner rear Valance repairs
  • Inspection of the whole body with the engine out and small repairs (like filling holes after stabilising bars and aftermarket equipment)
  • Stone chipping the underside of the car

Thank you Nigel, Neil and team for a Great job with good attention to detail. Thanks also for great advice during the process. You have been a pleasure to work with!

Like Christmas time / Julafton

Today I received a lot of parts from VP-Autoparts to my car.  Amazing that you still can get original Dashboard padding to a 48 year old car!  Took some time to sort all the nuts and bolts and small fitting details. Its great that there are part numbers and drawings available. Need to clear the kitchen table before my wife returned home 😉

Grill frame / Grillen

There where two dents on the grill frame. Very irritating – they have to go. The guys at Dorsetware de-chromed them for me so that the dents could be fixed. Now when the chrome is gone,  the dents can hardly be seen! I did already know it, but with chrome finish , the surface must be 100% before its chromed, everything shows.
